I ended up the extreme metal night at Valve last Friday night. Most of the bands had already played by the time I got there. I think it was already sometime around midnight by then. I caught a three piece Taranaki band called gortollogy who play death metal. They just had a guitarist, vocalist and drummer and still sounded incredibly heavy. I heard some hardcore influence come through in the vocals so I really enjoyed these guys. They're expanding their line-up with a rhythym and bass guiarist soon but they don't really need to.
Backyard Burial played next. I've stated my opinion on this band before. I left before they finished playing in case their music slayed me before I turned into a pumpkin.

Cage Demise Jolly Miller Bar Paraparaumu Saturday 25 August
I decided to check out this band against my better judgment. I don't really like death metal and just see the funny side of this sub-genre of metal. Cage Demise are a three piece death metal band from Palmerston North. Death metal bands don't smile or look like they're having a good time playing as chanelling zombies is serious business.
I'm fairly sure one song was introduced as 'Bleurrrrghhh' I said to the guy next me "Aren't all their songs?" His reply was "They're good aye? That's my boy on drums" I left before the band finished and wished I had gone to see the Stevie Ray Tribute Band playing closer to where I live. Cage Demise can be heard at the below website.

A death in The Family
So I caught the aussie band a death in the family two nights in a row. Once in Palmy and once in Wellington. They were great both nights as were Black Chrome and Not Quite Right. It was a pity only twenty people watched A Death In The Family in Palmerston North's Bar Mode.

This City Sunrise
So I received the This City Sunrise CD EP in the mail. Not sure what to make of it yet. It's fairly different to what I normally listen to. Bands I like that I could compare it to are Fugazi, Nomeansno and mybe The Jesus Lizarde but in no way does this band sound like any of them. I'll give it a more comprehensive review when I've listened to it a few more times. Now back to listening to Leatherface.

Leatherface - Horsebox
Right now I'm listening to Leatherface's Horsebox album. All other rock bands should simply cease to exist soon.
